Confidentiality and Ethical Practice

For information about how personal information is collected, used, stored, and shared, please refer to our Privacy Statement.

At Kōrero Pono, confidentiality, ethical practice, and professional integrity are central to how we provide professional supervision and wellbeing support. We aim to create a safe, respectful space grounded in trust, clarity, and care.

This page outlines how confidentiality and ethical responsibilities are managed within our supervision practice. For information about how personal information is collected, used, stored, and shared, please refer to our Privacy Statement.

Confidentiality in Supervision

Information shared during supervision is treated with a high level of confidentiality. This means that what is discussed in supervision remains private and is respected as personal and professional information.

There are some important limits to confidentiality. Information may be disclosed where:

  • there is a serious concern about safety

  • disclosure is required by law

  • disclosure is necessary to meet ethical or professional obligations

Where possible and appropriate, any limits to confidentiality or potential disclosures will be discussed with you.

Informed Consent

Before supervision begins, you will be informed about:

  • the purpose and focus of supervision

  • the limits of confidentiality

  • how information may be recorded and managed

  • your rights and responsibilities within the supervision relationship

Your participation in supervision indicates informed consent. We encourage ongoing conversations if questions or concerns arise.

Documentation and Record-Keeping

Key aspects of the supervision process may be documented, such as agreements, goals, themes, or outcomes. Documentation is kept professional, relevant, and confidential, and is used to support safe and effective supervision practice.

Recording Supervision Sessions

Supervision sessions are not recorded unless there is a clear purpose, such as training, assessment, transcription or professional development. Where recording is proposed, this will be discussed in advance and your consent will be obtained before any recording occurs.

Online Supervision

When supervision is conducted online, we use secure platforms and take reasonable steps to manage privacy risks associated with digital communication. Clients are also encouraged to choose private and secure locations for online sessions where possible.

Ethical Practice

Kōrero Pono practises in alignment with ethical standards relevant to professional supervision and wellbeing work. This includes acting with integrity, respect, cultural responsiveness, and accountability, and maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Privacy Breaches

In the unlikely event of a privacy breach, we will act promptly to minimise harm and will follow the requirements of the Privacy Act 2020, including notifying affected parties where required.

Questions or Concerns

If you have questions about confidentiality, ethical practice, or supervision processes, these are welcome and can be discussed at any time.
